Project Masam has destroyed 1,356 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in its second demolition this week.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the supervisor of Project Masam’s teams in Taiz said that the landmines destroyed in the second bulk demolition operation this week posed a direct threat to the lives of innocent civilians and their sources of livelihood in the villages and areas of the Jabal Habashi district – a mountainous region in Yemen’s south.<\/p>\n
The supervisor stressed that mines still occupy a large proportion of agricultural lands, sheep pastures, and residential sites that were created by internally displaced persons in the districts of Taiz.<\/p>\n
He indicated that Masam demining teams are continuing their work until they extract the last mine from Taiz governorate, and are hoping to contribute to restoring life to all villages, and residential and agricultural areas in the province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
