{"id":19838,"date":"2023-06-12T08:48:16","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T08:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/?p=19838"},"modified":"2023-06-12T08:48:16","modified_gmt":"2023-06-12T08:48:16","slug":"project-masam-destroys-1356-mines-ieds-and-uxo-in-yemens-jabal-habashi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-destroys-1356-mines-ieds-and-uxo-in-yemens-jabal-habashi\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Masam destroys 1,356 mines, IEDs and UXO in Yemen\u2019s Jabal Habashi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam has destroyed 1,356 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in its second demolition this week.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Since the conflict between Yemen\u2019s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated\u00a0<a class=\"ay zv\" href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-secures-30-of-%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8bdhubab-directorate-in-taiz-governorate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">strategic areas<\/a>\u00a0have been left cluttered with<a class=\"ay zv\" href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/18298-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">\u00a0anti-personnel mines<\/a>\u00a0and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded explosive remnants of war (ERW).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Operations Room announced in a statement that Project Masam&#8217;s Special Task Force team carried out the destruction and detonation of 1,356 mines, explosive devices and unexploded ordnance in Jabal Habashi district, Taiz governorate.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Items included 120 anti-tank mines, 1,158 UXO, 54 banned anti-personnel landmines and 22 IEDs.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<p>In a statement, the supervisor of Project Masam&#8217;s teams in Taiz said that the landmines destroyed in the second bulk demolition operation this week posed a direct threat to the lives of innocent civilians and their sources of livelihood in the villages and areas of the Jabal Habashi district &#8211; a mountainous region in Yemen&#8217;s south.<\/p>\n<p>The supervisor stressed that mines still occupy a large proportion of agricultural lands, sheep pastures, and residential sites that were created by internally displaced persons in the districts of Taiz.<\/p>\n<p>He indicated that Masam demining teams are continuing their work until they extract the last mine from Taiz governorate, and are hoping to contribute to restoring life to all villages, and residential and agricultural areas in the province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam has destroyed 1,356 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in its second demolition this week.
