{"id":19742,"date":"2023-05-17T07:15:31","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T07:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/?p=19742"},"modified":"2023-05-18T07:46:00","modified_gmt":"2023-05-18T07:46:00","slug":"masam-destroys-1047-mines-and-uxos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/masam-destroys-1047-mines-and-uxos\/","title":{"rendered":"Masam demolishes 1,047  landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices in Yemen\u2019s West Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Project Masam has destroyed 1,047 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs)\u00a0and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Bab al-Mandab province of Yemen\u2019s Taiz governorate.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The detonation operation, which was carried out by Masam specialised teams today, included 212 anti-tank mines and 25 anti-personnel mines, as well as 89 artillery shells, 468 rounds of ammunition, and 237 varied fuses.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Masam Operations reported that 16 IEDs were also destroyed.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Since mid-2018, Project Masam has been harnessing its deminers&#8217; field skills and technical capabilities to remove and destroy the largest number of landmines that have been indiscriminately planted across many Yemeni regions.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Much of Project Masam&#8217;s success in clearing landmines and other explosive items, at a rapid pace, lays in the fruitful cooperation between Project Masam, the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre\u00a0(YEMAC) and civilians, who report sightings of landmines or suspicious items.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Because of Project Masam&#8217;s emphasise on Mine Risk Awareness, civilians now know to report any suspicious object, as well as accidents, to the concerned authorities that Project Masam has on standby to deal professionally, rapidly and humanely with urgent reports.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">This, in turn, has contributed to a reduction in the number of landmine victims, and better education when it comes to protecting oneself against these deadly devices.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Since its launch in June 2018, Project Masam has removed 398,110 mines, UXO, and IEDs.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam has destroyed 1,047 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs)\u00a0and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Bab al-Mandab province of Yemen\u2019s Taiz governorate.
