{"id":19087,"date":"2022-12-18T10:23:56","date_gmt":"2022-12-18T10:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/?p=19087"},"modified":"2022-12-18T10:23:56","modified_gmt":"2022-12-18T10:23:56","slug":"masam-clears-377608-landmines-and-explosive-threats-in-yemen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/masam-clears-377608-landmines-and-explosive-threats-in-yemen\/","title":{"rendered":"Masam clears 377,608 landmines and explosive threats in Yemen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam has announced it has located and destroyed 377,608 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.<\/p>\n<p>These include 5,934 anti-personnel mines, 134,983 anti-tank mines, 7,642 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 229,049 unexploded ordnance (UXO) neutralised over 41,931,252sqm of land since mid-2018.<\/p>\n<p>Since the conflict between Yemen\u2019s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-secures-30-of-%e2%80%8b%e2%80%8bdhubab-directorate-in-taiz-governorate\/\">strategic areas<\/a>\u00a0have been left littered with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/18298-2\/\">Houthi anti-personnel mines<\/a>\u00a0and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded remnants of war.<\/p>\n<p>Last week (10 December \u2013 16 December 2022) alone, Project Masam deminers removed 1,408 deadly items, including 15 anti-personnel mines, 130 anti-tank mines, 1,259 UXO and four IEDs, effectively clearing 221,849sqm of land, which has now been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/returning-displaced-civilians-to-their-homes-in-mocha-taiz-governorate\/\">returned to civilians<\/a>, according to Project Masam Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi.<\/p>\n<p>Up to five million people are estimated to have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen \u2013 many of them displaced by the presence of landmines on their land.<\/p>\n<p>Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/technical-expert-fayez-al-harbi-landmines-were-planted-in-school-healthcare-centre-and-water-tank\/\">villages, roads, schools<\/a>, etc\u2026 in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services.<\/p>\n<p>For insights into our humanitarian mine clearance work, project updates and to hear from our demining experts, follows on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Masam_ENG\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/project-masam\">LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam has announced it has located and destroyed 377,608 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.
