The leader of Project Masam’s Team 6 has confirmed the clearing of 35,000 square meters in Shaqt al-Tayyar area in the Usaylan desert and the removal of 20 anti-personnel mines.<\/p>\n

Engineer Nasser Al-Sayed explained that the area, known as minefield 2, has been secured and a number of landmines and explosive devices planted by the Houthi militia have been removed from this area.<\/p>\n

Shaqt al-Tayyar is vital for sheep and camel herders, who are in dire need of accessing it in order to go back to grazing sheep and camels freely and safely.<\/p>\n

Al-Sayed said that the team is continuing its work in the Shaqt al-Tayyar desert area, which connects the Usaylan district in the Shabwah governorate and the Harib district in the Marib governorate until it is fully secured.<\/p>\n

Al-Sayed indicated that Team 6, has made great efforts and sacrifices, since the beginning of its work, and that it has cleared and secured 45 fields in different regions of Marib, Shabwah, Lahj, and Al-Hodeidah.<\/p>\n

The team leader added that the most prominent difficulties and challenges facing the team’s fieldwork are the remote areas and sand dunes with difficult terrain that impede the team’s access to those areas.<\/p>\n

For the first time, more than twenty anti-personnel mines were found, planted in the sand dunes in the Shaqt al-Tayyar area, Al-Sayed added.<\/p>\n

He also called on Yemeni civilians not to come near the suspected mined areas, as they still represent a threat to their lives until Masam’s engineering teams arrive to clear the area of landmines.<\/p>\n

The engineer expressed his thanks and appreciation for Project Masam, which trained and qualified the engineering teams affiliated with the project and provided all the technical, moral, and material support to every teams who continue to work around the clock in order to clear the Yemeni lands of mines.<\/p>\n
