Since Yemen\u2019s civil was began in 2014,\u00a0<\/span>Houthi militias have planted land and seamines<\/span><\/a>\u00a0across the war-torn country. Civilian communities in Yemen are\u00a0<\/span>direct victims<\/span><\/a>\u00a0of these explosive items.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority:\u00a0<\/span>villages, roads, schools<\/span><\/a>, etc\u2026 in order to facilitate the\u00a0<\/span>safe movement of civilians<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and humanitarian goods and services.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Deployed in the Rahbah District to assist with clearance in liberated areas, Team 11 led by Saleh Naser Toreeq removed 237 anti-tank mines and five anti-personnel mines last month.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The city of Rahbah, which is located in southern\u00a0Marib\u00a0governorate, saw intense fighting<\/a> as the Yemeni pro-government forces battled to retake the city in July this year following two years under Houthi control.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Team 11 is one of 16 teams operating out of Masam\u2019s Marib headquarters. In the week 6 to 12 November 2021, these teams removed 453 anti-tank mines from the area.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gus\u00a0Maartens,\u00a0Project\u00a0Manager, explained this large number of findings comes after Houthis retreated<\/a> from these previously occupied areas.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll areas currently occupied by Al-Houthi are deemed to be suspect, as they do not occupy without laying mines<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Maartens<\/span>\u00a0said.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
