Now I just sit. I can\u2019t live a normal life,&#8221; he told Project Masam from his village. &#8220;The landmines have halted my life. I became disabled. I used to go to work and now I am just idle. I have no source of income as I can\u2019t work. I can\u2019t do anything anymore.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the young man, the Houthis militias &#8220;planted landmines in farms, mountains, grasslands and even planted some of them inside the houses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Luckily for other herders in Abdou&#8217;s area, Project Masam was called after the young man&#8217;s accident and worked to remove landmines from the area to allow village life to continue.<br \/>\n&#8220;Thank God, since the arrival of Masam\u2019s clearance team, there have been no more accidents,&#8221; Abdou said.<\/p>\n<p>Since the project launched in mid-2018, Masam demining teams have cleared 24,800,280sqm of liberated Yemeni land, effectively locating and destroying 263,797 explosive items including 3,984 banned anti-personnel landmines.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;10px&#8221;][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7r4Gb5SL0XI&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=&#8221;featured_image&#8221; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;right&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1524156224953{margin-bottom: 25px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1627472776141{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-right: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;padding-left: 20px !important;background-color: #b5b5b5 !important;border-radius: 15px !important;}&#8221;]Like Abdou Hamdi, farmers and herders who take their cattle &#8211; goats and sheep &#8211; to graze in areas where the risk is unknown are the ones most affected by landmines in Yemen.
