Al-Qahtani, Supervisor of Project Masam Engineering Teams in Taiz Governorate, confirmed that the Houthi militia contaminated 18 districts in the governorate of Taiz with thousands of individual mines, all kinds of land mines, and explosive devices of various shapes and sizes.

Al-Qahtani said in a special statement for Masam Media Office that the Houthi mines planted in a dense and indiscriminate manner in the directorates of Taiz Governorate have caused the death and injury of more than 2,154 civilians, including 184 children killed beside 384 wounded children, and the rest are elderly and women.

Regarding the work nature of Team 22, Masam, who is assigned to work in Al-Wazi’iyah District, one of the largest directorates in Taiz Governorate, Al-Qahtani confirmed that Al-Wazi’iyah was almost locked down as a result of huge amount of mines, and because of that, residents were forced to flee to save themselves.

He also pointed out that Al-Wazi’iyah district is surrounded by five districts, all of which are booby-trapped with mines and explosive devices.

Al-Qahtani added that the Houthi mines planted in 82 residential areas in Al-Wazi’iyah District caused the death and injury of more than 375 civilians, not to mention the material losses local population suffered as a result of planting mines in their homes and in the fields of sesame and sorghum that were source of proud for their farms and the only income to support their families, Alhouthi militias turned it to fields planted with death.

Al-Qahtani noted that Team 22 Masam was able, during his tenure in the Al-Wazi’iyah Directorate, to secure civilian homes, roads and a large number of their farms, for the sake of lighting a candle of hope in the hearts of citizens by securing for them the possibility of living again in their areas peacefully.

Eng. Aref Al-Qahtani pointed out that the Masam project, represented by Team 22, managed during the past two years to secure 30 schools and educational center, 6 health centers, and a hospital, also Masam was able to open the main roads linking the directorate to Lahj and Aden, and enabled relief organizations to deliver medical aid for local residents.

Despite the achievement of the Masam project in Al-Wazi’iyah district, which in a short period of time was able to restore life to the land, and thanks to which the fields of municipal sesame and white corn returned to life again, Masam was also able to restore joy to children’s features after securing their playgrounds and places of fun, and students were able to carry their bags again and go to school.

However, the task of fully securing Al-Awazi’iyah from the militia’s mines requires more effort and time.

On the life road which Masam has constructed at a steady and deliberate pace to secure the lives of Yemenis and in continuation of the project’s efforts in supporting and entrusting its engineering teams working in the field, the team of Masam operations experts in Aden and the West Coast carried out a qualitative visit to the Al-Wazi’iyah district with the aim of closely seeing the progress of Masam Team 22 and learning about the geography that they work to secure, and to know the level of achievement.

As for the importance of Masam’s experts visit to the Wazi’iyah district, the supervisor of Masam’s engineering teams in Taiz and the leader of Team 22, Eng. Aref al-Qahtani, described the experts visit as historical and important visit, as he said, “Despite the hardships of the roads leading to Al-Wazi’iyah, which pass through the valleys and plains of Al-Sabiha district in Lahj governorate upwards through more rugged mountain heights. Masam’s experts overcame all these difficulties and were able to reach Al-Wazi’iyah, and this is clear evidence of the determination and strong willingness of the Masam project, represented by its management and all its affiliates, to move forward in achieving their noble humanitarian goal to save Yemenis and secure their lives from the danger of mines to reaffirm that this blessed land has what it deserves.
