West Coast: Destruction and detonation operation for 2,431 mines and UXO

Project Masam teams have carried out a destruction and detonation operation for 2,431 mines and other explosive items in Yemen’s West Coast.

Engineer Yehya Atef Saeed, Acting Leader Team 30, said the thousands of landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) had been located by 13 Masam teams across the West Coast including five teams in Bab Al-Mandab, four teams in Al Mocha, two teams in Al-Khawkha and two teams in Al-Wazi’iah.

In accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS​), Project Masam’s carries its Bulk, or Mass, Demolition Operations on selected demolition grounds, with International Set of Rules included in all its standard operating procedures (SOP 22). By destroying the explosive items, Project Masam ensures they can no longer function as designed.
