Three years on: Project Masam clears a total of 254,918 explosive devices

As Project Masam approaches its four-year anniversary, the humanitarian mine clearance programme has announced its has located and destroyed 254,918 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.

These include 3,858 anti-personnel mines, 80,420 anti-tank mines, 6,040 improvised explosive devices and 164,600 unexploded ordnance neutralised over 23,270,112sqm of land since mid-2018.

Last week (5 June – 11 June 2021) alone, Project Masam deminers removed 2,183 deadly items, including 728 anti-tank mines, 1,446 UXO, seven IEDs and two anti-personnel mines, effectively clearing 279,965sqm land, which has now been returned to civilians.

Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority: villages, roads, schools, etc… in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services.
