The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi will award the National Program for Mine Action and Project Masam the Medal of Courage, Yemen Daily News has announced today.
On Monday, June 26, Al-Alimi issued two decrees – Republican Decree No. (15) of 2023, Article 1 and Republican Decree No. (16) of 2023, Article 1 – which stipulate, respectively, awarding the National Program for Mine Action, and Saudi-funded Project Masam the “Medal of Courage” for their efforts in clearing Yemen of landmines, the official news agency Saba announced.
The two decisions stipulated that they are implemented from the date of their issuance and published in the official newspaper.
Since its launch in mid-2018, Project Masam in conjunction with the National Program for Mine Action’s Executive Centre in Aden (YEMAC) has located and cleared 405,213 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.
These include 6,258 anti-personnel mines, 139,709 anti-tank mines, 7,806 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 251,410 unexploded ordnance (UXO) neutralised over 47,485,089 sqm of land since June 2018.
