For the fourth month, Project Masam’s Team 4 continues the process of securing and removing landmines in important archaeological areas in Haid Bin Aqeel area in Usaylan district of Yemen’s Shabwah governorate.
Haid Bin Aqeel, which dates back to the 4th century BC, was liberated in 2017.
In a statement to Project Masam media office, the leader of Masam’s Team 4 confirmed that his team is currently working to secure Haid Bin Aqeel, which is home to one of the most important archaeological cemeteries in Yemen, belonging to the founders of Qataban Kingdom.
The team leader said that his team managed to secure 2,370 square metres over the last four months, adding that the work is still going on until the area is fully secured.
The leader of Project Masam’s Team 4 indicated that the archaeological area, which is currently cleared, was planted extensively and irregularly with large quantities of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines.
He added that because of these mines, neither visitors nor archaeological missions have been able to enter this area for the past eight years.
