Project Masam’s Team 20 has removed two anti-tank mines that were planted on a road leading to a water well in the Al-Maraweed area, Hays district in Yemen’s Al-Hudaydah governorate.
In an statement, the team leader said that the mines were planted on a road used daily by children who fetch water from the well for their homes in the village of Al-Maraweed.
The leader of Team 20 added that his team is currently surveying the road linking the village of Al-Maraweed to the water well, to ensure that there are no more mines.
He pointed out that the team has secured a temporary road for civilians to fetch water from the well, and warned civilians not to use the main road until it is formally secured.
Abdullah Ali Amer, a resident of Al-Maraweed, said women and children used to cross the road where mines were discovered every day to go to the well.
The Al-Maraweed area was previously hit by several landmine explosions that killed and injured many of its residents, in addition to killing a number of their sheep and camels, he said.
Amer asked Project Masam to secure the Al-Maraweed area from all mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and to secure the road leading to the well so that children can use it and fetch water safely from the well.
