Masam Special Task team has destroyed an unexploded missile on the shore of the Dhubab district, on the west coast of Yemen.
In a statement, Engineer Adib Rajab, the leader of the Special task team in Aden and the West Coast, said that the team had detonated a missile on the beach of Dhubab district – which constituted a direct threat to the lives of fishermen.
Rajab said that the destruction process was carried out with great care since the team detonated the missile while it was one meter deep under the water. The team covered the mines which were used in the detonation process with plastic bags while an earthen wall was constructed around the missile so that its fragments would not reach the civilians’ houses or the fishermen’s motor boats.
He noted further that the team was keen on observing safety and security measures as the location of the missile was very critical.
Rajab lauded the cooperation of the civilians and fishermen who carried sandbags inside the sea.
Mokhtar Mohamed Farag, one of the fishermen working on the shore of Dhubab district, praised the role played by the Masam teams in their district, affirming that the missile which was destroyed threatened the lives of the fishermen, who were scared to have their boats hit by the missile.
Meanwhile, fisherman Selim Mohamed affirmed that the destruction process was carried out safely by Masam’s teams, and no one was affected by the explosive item’s fragments – neither civilians, houses nor boats – indicating that the Masam team was keen to destroy the missile without causing any harm to anyone.
Mohamed explained that fishing is the only source of livelihood in the district of Dhubab and the missile terrorised the fishermen who believed it was a time bomb that would explode at anytime.
Mohamed thanked Project Masam and its engineering teams for their humanitarian mission that rid the area of landmines and war remnants, highlighting their effective role in restoring normality to the district of Dhubab.
