The Masam Landmine Clearance Project in Yemen is currently conducting a refresher training programme for demining teams, as well as paramedic teams, operating in the Marib sector.
This programme, initiated earlier this month, aims to enhance deminers’ skills in handling a variety of landmines and advanced improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to Project Masam’s management, the training programme includes all 16 demining teams deployed across the governorates of Marib, Shabwah, and Al-Jawf.
Commenting on the programme, the Leader of Project Masam’s demining Team 11 said that the training programme conducted by the training advisors is designed to acquaint deminers with cutting-edge technologies for landmine and improvised explosive device (IED) removal.
Emphasising the significance of the refresher courses led by seasoned international experts, he highlighted their role in equipping deminers with new skills and improving their operational effectiveness.
“Militias continuously innovate mines, making deminers primary targets,” he explained, adding that these skills are crucial to ensuring the safety of the demining teams, and local populations.
