The director of Al-Shaab School in the village of Akkad, Ahmed Muhammad Al-Barkani, has said that Project Masam’s teams have enabled the educational process in the school to get back on track, after completely securing it from landmines.
Al-Barkani said that the demining operations which Masam carried out in Al-Shaab School enabled the school staff and students to safely return to it.

“We were not able to enter the school until after Masam team arrived, where they cleared the mines, removed the rubble, and made us enter the school safely,” Barkani said.

“The school was destroyed and full of mines and explosive devices, so we could not approach until after the arrival of Team 22, Masam, and for that we thank them all.”

He called for the continuation of Project Masam’s humanitarian landmine clearance activities in Yemen to eliminate all remaining mines.

Al-Barkani expressed his hope that the school would return to its former state after repairing the classrooms destroyed by mines to enable students study in good conditions, following the return of safety to Al-Shaab School.
He called upon the concerned authorities to rebuild the destroyed classrooms, as the students are currently receiving their education in the school’s open yard, under the hot sun rays and in very harsh conditions.
