The current status of human rights in Yemen is tenuous at best. The actions of the Houthi rebels, which have included summary executions, forced disappearances, forced displacements, violations of physical integrity, and the recruitment of children, have been universally condemned by local and international authorities.
The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations was created in 2015 in order to address such egregious and flagrant disregard for humanity. By documenting the experiences of victims, and ensuring their voices are heard in a court of law, the Coalition helps stem the tide of injustices unleashed by the Houthis.
A report submitted by the Coalition regarding landmine victims in Yemen stated that between January 2015 and December 2016, 527 were maimed across 556 sites, which included medical and educational facilities, as well as civilian homes and workplaces. In the months of August and September alone, over a thousand cases of human rights violations were recorded.
